Event 3- $500 + 60 NL

Event 3: $500 + 60 NL Hold’em $50,000 Guarantee

12:29 p.m.:  Good afternoon, and welcome to Event 3 of the Parx Open Poker Classic, our $500 + 60 $50K guarantee.  Registration is still open until the conclusion of the second level, or 1:20 p.m.  The clubhouse room is beginning to fill up, and entrants are still walking in at a steady flow.  With only one tournament occurring today, we will have detailed updates the entire day.  As always, once registration closes, we will give you the final payouts and numbers.

1:17 p.m.:  Because of traffic in the surrounding areas, the decision has been made to keep registration open for another level (until level 3), which bring us to our first break.  So all numbers will be finalized then, and posted accordingly.

Couple of Local Pros

Out of the Gates
3:16 p.m.:  We have our initial chip leader, and his name is Jim Ware (Philadelphia, PA).  Jim just knocked out a player, scooping up a nice pot, and was eager to let me know that he had exactly 77K in chips.
4:05 p.m.:
Tournament Crew (Bob, Ron, Kelly, Jim, Dave, Rod, Jun)
Our first class crew taking care of the room throughout our Event 3 today
Parkettes (Samantha, Sophia, Kelly)
Brightening up even a rough day
Verbal Jarring
4:48 p.m.:  We are coming back off a 20 minute break, at Level 7 with 200-400 blinds and 50 ante.  We have some emerging stacks at table 71, where Douglas Friedmutter (Brooklyn, NY) sits with 73K.  After asking for a count, he also let me know that he just lost a 70K pot before the break.  The recipient of that pot happened to be Vincent Procopio (Philadelphia, PA), who had no problem letting Douglas know the pot was won with just ace high.
Douglas Friedmutter (Brooklyn, NY)
First to Reach 100K
5:34 p.m.:  With our dinner break at the top of the hour, we have our first player to eclipse the 100K mark, and it is Scott Strubel (Woodbridge, NJ).  We will go on break for an hour while players fuel up, and come back with 400-800 blinds and a 75 ante.  We have 101 players left at the moment.
Scott Strubel (Woodbridge, NJ)
Back From Dinner
7:00 p.m.:   Never a shortage of things to dine on here at Parx, as players file back in to the clubhouse room.  After canvasing the room, we have three stacks above 100K, and they belong to:
Jim Ware – 120K
Joe Gatmaitan – 114K
Douglas Friedmutter – 100K
Joe Gatmaitan has been running pretty well according to a bunch of table mates.  He flopped top set twice in a span of five hands, and before break went runner-runner hearts with his Aces, to knock out a fellow competitor who had 6c7c on a K 6 6 board.
Joe Gatmaitan (Philadelphia, PA)
Things Are Slowing Down
8:13 p.m.:  Things are slowing down drastically, with 76 players left.  We are at level 10, with 500-1K blinds and 100 ante.  A new member to the century club, Joe Palma (Bensalem, PA), made a solid run in Event 2.  He is sitting on a little over 100K, and hopes to surpass his finish from last night.
Joe Palma (Bensalem, PA)
Solid Pick-off Move
8:51 p.m.:  Trevor Savage (West Deptford, NJ) has introduced himself to the field, taking over as the new chip leader (150K).  Trevor just won a nice sized pot, picking-off his opponents all in bluff on the river.  We are currently at Level 11, with 600-1200 blinds and 100 ante.  The chip average is hovering right around 50K, and we currently have 66 players left.  Keeping up with new tradition, we have our “last lady standing,” and it is Kim Edmonds (Toms River, NJ).  Maureen Oranato (Las Vegas, NV) flopped a set of kings on an all heart board, but couldn’t fill up after her opponent made a four card flush on the turn.
Trevor Savage (West Deptford, NJ)
Repeat Offender
9:19 p.m.:  It’s moving time in the tournament, and it’s getting towards crunch time for some of the shorter stacks in the room.  A few more name are creeping up the leaderboard, one of which was making noise in first event.  Tim Ferri is now our current chip leader, with just under 200K.  Another new name to the list is Dave Noyes (Reading,PA), who has 150K, and shares the table with both Trevor Savage and Douglas Friedmutter.  Both Trevor and Douglas are pushing the 175K mark.
An Unexpected Turn
9:48 p.m.:  At one point, table 69 housed three of the top four stacks in the room.  With Trevor Savage, Douglas Friedmutter, and Dave Noyes all sitting with over 140K.  We were then shocked to see Friedmutter walking out of the clubhouse room with his jacket and bag in hand.  He got tangled with Dave Noyes in a pot, and unfortunately for him, came out on the wrong end of it.  Dave Noyes now sits with over 230K, and as we go to a 20 minute break at the end of this level, is the only player about 200K.  During the break we will update the top stacks in the room.
Back From Break
10:24p.m.:  We are back from break, entering level 13, with 1K-2K blinds and 200 ante.  With 46 players left, here are our top three stacks:
Dave Noyes – 248K
Trevor Savage – 200K
Jim Ward – 185K
Dave Noyes (Reading, PA)
Jim Ware (Philadelphia, PA)
Air Gordon
11:27 p.m.:  We are down to 36 players, and we will playing until 2:00 a.m.  After that, we will be bagging the remaining players chips, and coming back tomorrow for the finale of event 3.  The leaderboard is constantly changing, and it’s Gordon Eng (Cliffside Park, NJ) who leads the way with 215K.  Gordon had be under the radar for most of the day, but the seasoned players know that the time to make themselves noticed, is towards the end of the tournament.  Eng had a huge double-up with aces to put him where he stands now.
Gordon Eng (Cliffside Park, NJ)
Another player that making noise at the top of the list is Joe Cappuccio (Hammonton, NJ), who currently sits with 195K.  We are in level 17, with 1200-2400 blinds, and 300 ante.  The chip average sits at 98K.  There will be another 20-minute break after level 18.
Joe Cappuccio (Hammonton, NJ)
Keeping The Lights On
11:53 p.m.:  Inching closer and closer to the money, we just had a three way all in, with the “Lighthouse Keeper” taking us down to 33 people.  James “Lighthouse Keeper” Boyle (Havre De Grace, MD) took a few minutes to decide with two players all in ahead of him, but with over 130K decided to call the 40K.
Player x: KhKs   Player y: QhQd   James Boyle: 10d10c
Flop: 5c Ad 10c
Turn: Jh
River: 2h
James Boyle (Havre De Grace, MD)
“I knew the 10 was coming!”
Next break is in 26 minutes, and we will have the top 10 stacks in the room to update.
12:48 a.m.:  Coming back from break, with a little over an hour left to play.  Top 7 stacks:
Trevor Savage – 265K
Joe Gatmaitan – 230K
Gordon Eng – 227K
Roman Mamed – 210K
Tim Ferri – 210K
James Boyle – 194K
Jim Ware – 157K
And We Bid You Goodnight
1:46 a.m.:  And we come back tomorrow at 2 p.m. with 21 players.  Here are the counts:

Joe Gatmaitan – 178K
Desmond Neill – 44.4K
James Boyle – 216.5K
Joe Capuccio – 241K
Brian Gleason – 121K

Scott Gallant – 79K
Gordon Eng – 315K
Roman Mamed – 229K
Jim Ware – 140K
Tim Ferri – 323K
Trevor Savage – 274K
We are coming back at 3k-6k and 500 ante.
Day 2 Begins
1:59 p.m.:  Players have reached their news tables, sans Roman Mamed (if you are reading this Roman, get in here quick!).  We are currently starting at Level 17, with 3k-6k blinds and a 500 ante.  Tournament director Dave Grubb is going over the rules, and the cards will soon be in the air.
2:14 p.m.:  We have lost one player, Chris Dyer (Tennessee).  As we were called over, it was Joe Gatmaitan who was standing up.  On a board of 10d Js 8S, Chris (as short stack) put his 50K in the middle.  Joe called with Jh10s, the turn brought the 2d, followed by a river Kh.  Chris hit the rail, but had a great showing this tournament.  We are now hand for hand, and two spots from the money.
Kim Edmonds also helped herself creep out of the realm of the “short stack,” making quads against  Gordon Eng, our tournament chip leader.  In other news, Roman Mamed has shown up.
Doubling Up
2:27 p.m.:

Brian Gleason (Charlotte, NC)
Brian’s kings held up against Robert Pyne’s AQ, and he now sits with over 200K
2:37 p.m.:  Things are moving now, as we lost Joe Gaitmaitan.  Here is his final hand against Joe Cappuccio:
Joe G: 7c 8c             Joe C.: 10c 3c
Flop: 5c 8s 2c (Gatmaitan bets out the flop, and Cappuccio pushed in.  Joe G. calls)
Turn: Qd
River: Kc
With the two big stacks tangling there, three out of the four players who came into today short are still surviving.
In The Money!!!!
2:46 p.m.:  We have made the money in Event 3! Robert Pyne is our unfortunate “bubble boy,” and the directors are now redrawing the new tables for the 18 remaining players.  Robert was left very short after losing to Brian Gleason’s kings.  With his last 24k, he was up against Gordon Eng:
Robert: As 5d           Gordon: Ac 10c
Flop: Qh 10s 7c
Turn: 3s
River: 5h
Gordon Eng (Cliffside Park, NJ)
3:02 p.m.:
Nate Lundquist (Philadelphia, PA)
18th place – $1,392
Shetal Patel (Iselin, NJ)
17th place – $1,392
Kim Edmonds (Toms River, NJ)
16th place – $1,392
Kim played the short stack incredibly throughout the final stages of the tournaments.  She pushed in with
Ac7c, but ran into Joe Cappuccio’s aces.
3:15 p.m.:
Steve Morgen (Hi Nella, NJ)
15th place – $1,591
Jim Ware (Philadephia, PA)
14th place – $1,591
Scott Gallant (Lower Gwynedd,PA)
13th place – $1,591
Desmond Neill (Montclair, NJ)
12th place – $1,790
Dave Noyes (Reading, PA)
11th place – $1,790
We have reached our final table for Event 3! We will break in 8 minutes, and have updated seating, as well as chip counts.
Final Table
4:00 p.m.:  We are coming back from break with 5k-10k blinds and 1k ante.  Here are your seat assignments and chip counts:
  1. James Boyle – 190K
  2. Gordon Eng – 346K
  3. Trevor Savage – 461K
  4. Minh Nguyen – 345K
  5. Brian Gleason – 356K
  6. Time Ferri – 153K
  7. Steve McDonough – 160K
  8. Roman Mamed – 330K
  9. Joshua Weizer – 420K
  10. Joe Cappuccio – 980K
“Ferri” Ride
4:18 p.m.:  Tim Ferri sat at the final table as the short stack, and he now sits with over 600k, in a matter of these two hands:
Ferri (All in for 148K): Ah7h              Joe Cappuccio: AsAd
Flop: 8h 3h Kh
Turn: Ks
River: 4d
Ferri doubles up to 296.  Seven hands later:
Ferri (All in for 288K): AcKc           Joshua  Weizel: AdQs
Flop: 4d 5h 5s
Turn: 10s
River: 6d
Ferri doubles up again to over 600k
Tim Ferri (Philadelphia, PA)
5:05 p.m.:  We know you are out there waiting for updates on some action, but the final table has been moving pretty slowly.  We will have news for you as soon as it happens.
First Final Table Exit
5:32 p.m.:  Things were moving slowly, with so many chips in play (and great blind structure).  In maybe the pot of the tournament, Joe Cappuccio open for 36k.  Trevor Savage three bets to 102K, and Minh Nguyen shoves for close to 140k.  Cappuccio then goes all in, and is called by Savage, which brings a monster three-way all in:
Joe c: JcJh              Savage: AhKh               Minh: 9c9s
Flop: 2s 9d 5d
Turn: Kd
River: 10s
Minh picks up a huge pot, while Savage wins the side pot, knocking out Joe Cappucio.  Nguyen sits on about 500K now, with Savage only taking a minimal loss in retaining the side pot.
Joe Cappuccio (Hammonton, NJ)
10th place – $1,790
6:00 p.m.:  Nothing to report, except the fact that we are taking an hour dinner break.
6:56 p.m.:  Coming back from dinner break in a few minutes, with 10k-20k blinds, and 2k ante.
Doubling Up
7:11 p.m.:  In the first hand off the break, Brian Gleason had a huge double up as his kings held up against Minh Nguyen’s AdKd.  This bloated Brian’s stack to over 580k.
Gleason doubles up
…And Action!!!
7:21 p.m.:  The next ten minutes were a furious barrage of all ins, and players hitting the rail.
Joshua Weizer (Philadelphia, PA)
9th place – $2,187
Josh raised, and was three bet all in by James Boyle.
Josh: Ac10d            James: AsKs
Flop: 10h Kh 2s
Turn: 6s
River: Qs
Minh Nyugen (Mechanicsburg, PA)
8th place – $2,585
Minh was severely short after losing to Gleason’s kings.  He pushed short and was called by Steve McDonough:
Minh: AsJh     Steve: 10h10d
Flop: 6h Kc 4h
Turn: 2h
River: Kd
Tim Ferri (Philadelphia, PA)
7th place – $3,182
Ferri looked at one card, and one was enough to push.  Roman Mamed called:
Ferri: Ad3c          Roman: Ah9h
Flop: Jc Qh 5h
Turn: 6c
River: As
Ferri is two for two in events played this series, and looks forward to continued success.
Swing Shift
7:52 p.m.:  The chips are shifting places after a large pot between Trevor Savage and Gordon Eng.  In a blind vs. blind situation, Gordon was happy to check-call Savage pre-flop, post-flop, and on the turn.  The river went check-check, and Gordon’s Ac7c was good on an ace high board.  We never saw Trevor’s hand.  That was then followed by Trevor three betting all in against Roman Mamed’s raise:
Savage: 9d9c           Mamed: 7c7d
Flop: 5h Jc 4s
Turn: As
River: 3S
Mamed took a major hit in chips, but……
Roman followed two hands later putting the rest of his chips in the middle, and James Boyle called him:
Boyle: 8c8s            Mamed: AdAs
Flop: 6h 7c 2h
Turn: 2s
River: Kc
Mamed recouped a lot of chips, taking a bite out of Boyle’s 700k stack.
And Another One
8:45 p.m.:
Brian Gleason (Charlotte, NC)
6th place – $4,176
Brians’s crucial hand took place right before his last.  Gleason raised to 70k, and Steve McDonough flatted.  Trevor Savage then pushed all in,
and was called by Gleason:
Trevor: KsQh               Gleason: JsJh
Flop: Kc 7s Qs
Turn: Qd
River: 8s
Trevor is now up to 700K, while Gleason takes home 6th place.
James “Lighthouse Keeper” Boyle
Havre De Grace, MD
5th place – $5,369
Boyle: JcJd            Trevor: AsKc
Flop: 4s 6s 5s
Turn: 10h
River: 8s
James is a seasoned veteran in this field of poker, and this was his first time at Parx.  He really
enjoyed Parx, and had nothing but great things to say about the final table opponents.
Flash Gordon
Steve McDonough (Cranford, NJ)
4th place – $7,159
Savage raised to 65k, and McDonough pushed all in for 296k.  Roman tanked, but folded, followed by Gordon Eng
going all in.  Savage then folded:
Steve:  Qs10c          Gordon: 8s8h
Flop: Qh Qc 4h
Turn: 8c
River: As
It was an emotional roller coaster type of hand, but it would be McDonough’s last.  Steve played great throughout
the tournament, and will go home 7k richer.
Final Three
Heads Up
10:16 p.m.:
Roman Mamed (Hammonton, NJ)
3rd place – $9,545
Roman’s last hand also wasn’t the breaker, it was the one prior.  After Savage limped in the small blind, Roman pushed all in
for close to 800k.  After thinking for a moment, Savage decided to call:
Roman: Ac10d          Savage: KcJc
Flop: Ks Kd 9h
Turn: Qc
River: 6h
We are now heads up for the bracelet.
Another Champion is Crowned!!!
10:50 p.m.:  We played long… and we played late. After 34 hands heads up, and about 45 minutes, Trevor Savage is our Event 3 winner.  Outlasting an extremely tough field, along with a first class heads up opponent, Savage is truly deserving of the title.
Gordon Eng (Cliffside Park, NJ)
2nd place – $12,726
Trevor Savage (West Deptford, NJ)
Champion – $18,292
Eng: Qc Jd            Savage: Kd Jh
Flop: 8h Kc 5h
Turn: 2s
River: 5c
